Known in the region of Oued Souf, it bears the name of Saint Sidi Merzoug who died and was buried at the Zaouîa of Sidi Bouali Nafti in Tunisia. This dance is practiced during festive ceremonies organized by the people of El Oued and its surroundings, each year at the beginning of spring.
The troop is called “Firqate Baba Merzoug” made up of black men. The Baba Merzoug dance is characterized by performances during which dance steps are performed, supported by songs chanting poems in commemoration of the saint Sidi Merzoug and in praise of God and his Prophet.
The main musical instruments used for this dance are the Qarqabu and the Tbal (drum).
The dancers wear a specific outfit: White Gandoura, Black Belt and Chachia decorated with Black and White.
