Fadhila Dziria
Born June 25, 1917 in Algiers, real name Fadhila Madani, one of the doyennes of Andalusian music at a time when it was very difficult for a young woman to establish herself on the artistic scene.
She devoted herself to singing from a young age by imitating the maalmaYamna Bent El Mahdi.
She was discovered during an appearance on the show “Men Koul Fen Chwaya” hosted by El-Hbib Hachlaf alongside the conductor Haddad El Djilali.
She left Algeria to settle in France where she found herself among emigrant artists and sang modern Algerian and hawzi. Returning to the country, she continued to sing and host family celebrations. Mustapha Kchkoul, nightclub manager at Radio Alger, advised her to sing hawzi and introduced her into the radio's women's orchestra which was directed by Meriam Fekkai. In 1949 she recorded her first album entitled “Mal hbibi malou”.
She then participated as an actress in the theatrical plays of Mohiédine Bachetarzi.
Her artistic life did not prevent her from participating with her sister Goucem in the war of liberation and upon her release from prison, she formed her own musical ensemble.
After independence, she resumed her participation in radio and television through recordings.
Fadhila Dziria was known as the greatest Algerian singer, she died on October 6, 1970 in Algiers.
