Relations between the two countries are marked by mutual consideration, esteem and friendship.
They date back to the time of the official recognition of the provisional government of the Algerian Republic by the Government of the Democratic Republic of North Vietnam in 1958. The two countries established official diplomatic relations on October 28, 1962. The year 2017 marks their 55th anniversary.
Algeria has always been perceived on the Vietnamese side as a friendly country to which Vietnam is indebted for the political support it gave it during its war against the United States and the aid it gave it during the reconstruction period which followed the reunification of the country. For its part, Vietnam is considered a friendly country on which Algeria can count in difficult times, as was the case in 1992 when the National Assembly of Vietnam supported the representation of our country by the National Advisory Council at the conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Stockholm.
The two countries, which maintain a permanent political dialogue and share common positions on numerous international issues, aim to develop mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
Algerian-Vietnamese relations were further strengthened following the state visit to Vietnam in 2000 by H.E. THE President of the Republic. This visit, which was part of the strengthening of bilateral relations and the traditions of regular consultation at the highest level between the two countries, responded to that carried out in Algiers, in 1999, by the Vietnamese President, Mr. Tran Duc LUONG.
These relations were also consolidated by the state visit to Algeria, in 2010, of H.E.M. Nguyen Minh TRIET, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, during which several cooperation agreements in different areas were signed.
