Bordj EL Mokrani - Bordj Bou Arreridj
Is one of the historical monuments contained in the wilaya of Bordj Bou Arreridj from which it takes its name, it is an important cultural heritage which testifies to several successive historical eras in the region. Dating from the Ottoman era, was built by Hassan Pasha, Ben Kheir-Eddine in 1525 on a rock 15 meters high, the highest plateau in the region, used as an observation fort overlooking the entire town of Bordj Bou Arreridj.
In 1871 it was renamed in the name of the leader of the popular revolution Mohamed El Mokrani, when he wanted to take refuge against the successive attacks of the French army.
After independence, the national army ceded it to the commune of El Bordj, and in 1993, it was made available to the National Archeology Agency to return it to a museum, a place of contemplation of the historical collective memory of the resistance and the heroic struggle of leader El Mokrani. In 2016, it was opened as a museum and library for the entire wilaya, after being restored and rehabilitated.
