National Day
United Nations Public Service Day, proclaimed in 2003 by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 57/277, highlights the role of public administration for development and for communities.
To celebrate this day which coincides with June 23 each year, the United Nations General Assembly encourages member states to organize special activities to highlight its contribution to public service and the development process.
This international day is therefore an opportunity to highlight both the work of civil service agents and to encourage young people to choose and pursue a career in the public sector.
Furthermore, the objectives of sustainable development, outlined in public policies, depend on the action of the Civil Service, whether it concerns health or education, security or the rule of law, water, energy, technologies or economic policies.
All countries and all people must be able to count on a competent, well-equipped and adequately resourced civil service. The Civil Service must be diverse and ethical. It must truly serve the population, improving the lives of citizens, particularly the most vulnerable.
In Algeria, the Civil Service created under Decree No. 62-526 of September 18, 1962, today employs more than 2,095,549 civil servants on behalf of the various state institutions, it is placed under the Prime Minister.
The general status of the Civil Service, the subject of Order No. 06-03 of July 15, 2006, constitutes the reference framework and the adequate basis for initiating a process of modernization of the civil service aimed at promoting an administration renewed in its vision, efficient and effective in its intervention and capable of responding to the aspirations and needs of citizens.
