30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Palestinian state
On November 15, 1988, at the Palais des Nations, Club des Pins in Algiers, the late leader, Yasser Arafat, proclaimed in his famous speech before the National Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the creation of a Palestinian state whose capital will be El Quds Al Sharif. Yasser ARAFAT declared that "In the name of Allah and in the name of the Palestinian Arab people, proclaim the establishment of the State of Palestine on our Palestinian land, with El Quds as its capital." Since that date, Algeria has become the origin of numerous achievements obtained in favor of the Palestinian cause.
The declaration document known as the Declaration of Independence, written by the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, called for "continuing the struggle to end the Israeli occupation and to consolidate sovereignty and independence." This document was considered the date of the beginning of a new era.
The Declaration included an appeal to the sons of the Arab nation to help Palestine complete its effective establishment. Also, the proclamation of its adherence to the principles and objectives of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the principles and policy of non-alignment. The declaration also emphasized that the State of Palestine is a peace-loving state, committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence. He will cooperate with all states and peoples of the world to achieve lasting peace and believes in the peaceful resolution of international and regional problems.
Algeria recognized the State of Palestine on the same day as the Declaration of Independence and officially established full diplomatic relations with Palestine on December 18, 1988. This announcement was echoed in most countries around the world.
As for international organizations, the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation were the first to recognize the Palestinian state on the first day of the declaration. The United Nations General Assembly implicitly admitted the Palestinian state a month later, on December 15, 1988, and the designation "Palestine" should be used within the United Nations system instead of the "Palestine Liberation Organization" without prejudice to the status and functions of Palestine Liberation Observer at the UN.
As of November 29, 2012, and thanks to the significant support of Algeria, Palestine was recognized as a non-member observer state at the United Nations.
The 30th anniversary of the declaration of Palestinian statehood in Algeria is an important reminder of Algeria's unwavering principled position on this issue. Algeria was the first to open a Palestine Liberation Organization office immediately after independence. She also played a key role in the integration of the Palestinian State into the United Nations and obtaining observer status at the 29th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 1974. And this, thanks to the efforts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time, Mr Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Who invited, in his capacity as President of the UN General Assembly, President Yasser Arafat to the United Nations podium to deliver his speech. On the demands of the liberation movement.
Algeria continues to reaffirm its firm position and its support for the brotherly Palestinian people in order to enable them to exercise their legitimate rights, the most important of which is their right to establish an independent State according to the 1967 borders with El Quds Al Sharif as its capital, in accordance with international law and legitimacy. Algeria continues to support all Palestinian, Arab and international efforts aimed at obtaining international recognition of the Palestinian State in full membership and sovereignty.
