40th Anniversary of the death of Houari Boumediene
Houari Boumediene, real name Mohammed Boukharouba, from a poor rural family, born August 23, 1932 in the village of Beni Aadi, 15 KM from Guelma.
He learned the Koran so well that he entered the French primary school of Guelma in 1949, then he undertook Koranic studies at the Kettania institute in Constantine, then continued them at the Zitouna institute in Tunis; he subsequently headed to the al-Azhar Institute in Cairo in 1951, he joined a military school.
At the start of the Algerian liberation war in 1954, he joined the fifth region to fight against colonial domination alongside the shahid LARBI BEN M'HIDI, appointed head of the fifth region in 1957 and member of the Western sector. He subsequently became head of the General Staff of the ALN (National Liberation Army).
Once independence was achieved, he became vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defense in the first Algerian government.
In June 19, 1965, he decided to lead a revolutionary recovery in the service of the nation, at the end of which he became its president and the second president of independent Algeria. Under his leadership, he undertook several internal and external reform projects with a view to building a strong Algeria.
Under his governance, he began reforms in the agricultural sector, large colonial estates were converted into collective farms or state farms, the realization of one of the most ambitious agro-ecological projects 'the green dams' to counter the advance of the desert, also around 1000 agricultural villages were created. He built factories and schools, and above all contributed, on February 24, 1971, in the name of the principle of the recovery of national wealth, to the nationalization of hydrocarbons, to the great dismay of France.
Algeria's diplomacy in the early 1970s rested on the shoulders of His Excellency President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, the voice of Algeria was respected and listened to, he played a very active role through the organization of the Arab League, the organization of the African Union as well as the movement of non-aligned countries, he supported liberation struggles in the world and in particular the struggle of the Palestinian people and Western Sahara in their fight to recover their territory and build a State there, Justice and the freedom of peoples were the strong actions that Algeria defended through all international forums.
The late President Houari Boumediene is the first president of third world countries to address the new concept of the “new international economic order” in his memorable speech delivered in Arabic to the General Assembly of the United Nations.
He is also known for several memorable quotes such as 'the construction of the state does not disappear with the disappearance of men'. “We are with Palestine, accused or accuser”
In reality, Boumediene will continue to occupy a very special place in the hearts of Algerians, from generation to generation, he will remain one of the most important men and lighthouses who have marked the history of our modern Algeria.
