The African Cup of Nations is the most important continental football competition in Africa. It is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and pits the African national teams against each other. This competition, held every two years, took place for the first time in 1957 in Sudan. The winner qualifies for the Confederations Cup.

The title of African football champion is held by Cameroon, winner of the 2017 edition. Egypt is the first African nation to have won a continental trophy three times in a row (victories in the final against Ivory Coast in 2006, against Cameroon in 2008 and against Ghana in 2010).

From 2013, the CAN continues to take place every two years, but it is organized in odd years in order to avoid it being played in the same year as the Football World Cup.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations is the 32nd edition of the African Cup of Nations, which will take place in Egypt from June 21 to July 19, 2019. It is the first organized with 24 participating teams.

Algeria participates in this continental completion in group C which also contains Senegal, Kenya and Tanzania
