50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CREATION OF SONELGAZ
On July 28, 2019, Sonelgaz will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary
From the era of Electricity and Gas of Algeria (EGA) to the emergence of one of the most prominent energy groups on the scale of the African continent and the Mediterranean basin, Sonelgaz has written and continues to write for more than half a century, one of the most beautiful and prestigious pages in the history of industry and the economic and social development of Algeria.
A pillar of national development and historic operator in energy supply, Sonelgaz is today an Industrial Group present throughout the national territory, even in the most remote areas. By ensuring an electricity coverage rate of more than 99% and a gas penetration rate of more than 62%, Sonelgaz has contributed to improving the quality of life of Algerian families, allowing them to resolutely enter the modern world.
Created in 1969 after the dissolution of EGA, Sonelgaz has since overcome major challenges. The economic growth and industrial development of the country, its demographic growth, the improvement in the standard of living of the population, have propelled Sonelgaz to the status of a leading industrial group.
Thanks to its journey and its achievements, Sonelgaz has implemented large-scale investment programs; from rural electrification to renewable energies through public gas distribution programs in order to supply the majority of regions, including the most remote, thus ensuring its mission of public service and corporate citizenship.
Also, beyond the economic approach, Sonelgaz, sensitive to its environment, aware of its social dimension, has always adopted an attitude of proximity and a civic approach. It has massively supported initiatives encouraging the emergence of talents and promoting the associative spirit through patronage and sponsorship.
For half a century, Sonelgaz has illuminated Algeria and served as a powerful engine for its development, thanks to its men and women and the values that drive them from generation to generation.
