Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia
Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia: born January 30, 1932 in Jijel, experienced Algerian politician, died May 3, 1982 on the Iranian-Turkish border in the town of Jattour.
Young lawyer, politician and activist during the Algerian revolution, graduated from the University of Algiers, known for his activism during the struggle for independence.
He was appointed Acting Secretary General of the Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) and member of the Algerian delegation which negotiated with the French government towards the conclusion of the Evian Accords in 1962.
Members of the Algerian delegation to the Mulan talks in 1960. He chaired the CNRA meeting in Tripoli (Libya) in 1962.
After independence, he held several high-ranking positions as ambassador to Moscow and then London.
He held several positions of responsibility.
• Minister of Information from October 22, 1966 to July 21, 1970
• Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research from July 21, 1970 to April 23, 1977
• Minister of Finance from April 23, 1977 to March 8, 1979
• Minister of Foreign Affairs from March 8, 1979 until his death on May 3, 1982.
In 1981, he was the victim of a serious plane accident in Mali which caused him significant injuries and forced him to convalesce for several months.
He was accompanied by his colleague Abdelwahab Abada, director of African affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), who also emerged alive from the accident.
A year later, leading a peace mission between Iran and Iraq then at war, Mohammed Seddik Benyahia died above the Iranian-Turkish border on May 3, 1982 and with him an MAE delegation made up of 8 executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a journalist and the 4 crew members of his plane, one (Grumman Gulfstream II) of the Presidency of the Republic was shot down by a missile strike.
