Created in 1995, the Algiers International Book Fair is celebrating its 24th edition this year, 2019. It is considered today as one of the most important book fairs in the world, and it is distinguished by its high popular attendance which places it in first place on the African continent, in the Arab world and in the Mediterranean.
In 2018, it welcomed more than two million visitors from all regions of the country and including all generations and social categories attracted by the exhibition and sale of works of all kinds: literature, history, sciences, languages, etc. In recent years, around a thousand exhibitors from four continents have been offering their books to the Algerian readership.
Taking place at the Palais des Expositions des Pins Maritimes in Algiers for ten days (and from the end of October to the first days of November), SILA also offers a rich program of cultural activities with conferences, round tables and thematic meetings led by renowned Algerian and foreign writers and academics. Each edition, the Salon highlights a country and its edition. In addition to its character as an editorial return and cultural event, it has become a true national tradition awaited by Algerians and especially families.
