Coronaviruses constitute a large family of viruses that can infect humans and animals. Many of these viruses can cause respiratory illnesses in humans ranging from a simple cold to sometimes fatal complications.
What is covid-19:
Covid-19 is an infectious pathology which was identified for the first time, following an epidemic, in the Chinese city of Wuhan and which is generated by a recent virus, belonging to the coronavirus family. Covid-19 subsequently transformed into a pandemic that affected a significant number of countries around the world.
What are the symptoms of covid-19:
The most common symptoms are:
• Fever;
• Fatigue;
• Dry cough.
The less common symptoms developed in some patients are:
• Body aches;
• Nasal congestion;
• Headaches;
• Conjunctivitis;
• Sore throats;
• Diarrhea;
• Loss of smell or taste;
• Rash or discoloration of fingers or toes.
Most people infected with covid-19 (around 80%) develop a mild form of the disease and recover without hospitalization. But symptoms increase in 1 in 5 people affected, leading to respiratory complications. However, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses (blood pressure, diabetes, heart and lung diseases or cancer) are most exposed to the risks of contamination by covid-19.
If any of the above symptoms appear, you should call your doctor or medical assistant for better care and to take all necessary measures.
What to do to protect yourself and others from covid-19:
-Compliance with physical distancing rules (at least 1 meter) to avoid the risk of contamination;
• The obligation to wear a mask everywhere,
• Wash your hands regularly with soap or hydroalcoholic gel;
• Cough or sneeze into a tissue or elbow.
Anti-covid-19 vaccination:
In Algeria, the anti-covid-19 vaccination campaign was officially launched on January 30, 2021, from the wilaya of Blida, considered the first focus of the covid-19 pandemic.
