Percussion instrument. Cylindrical in shape, it comes in very variable sizes. In the form of a vase constricted in the middle or a mug, it is covered at one of its ends with a membrane. This instrument is irreplaceable in the musical choir since it adjusts the balance in folk performance.
The darbuka is an ancient musical instrument known to the Babylonians and Sumerians since 1100 BC. It is still one of the main percussion instruments and is used in traditional wedding celebrations and by different musical groups. Its name varies from region to region and from country to country.
The traditional darbouka is made of clay, pottery and is covered with goat skin. Nowadays, it is also made from aluminum, copper or silver. The body of the darbuka is generally decorated with inscriptions.
