The idea of armed action dates back to the document which was approved by the Directorate of the “North African Star” in 1927, which adopted armed action as the only alternative to achieve independence during its conference of July 24, 1938. “The Algerian People's Party” decided to create an organ called “The Green Committee” whose main mission was to take charge of armed action. In 1939, the members of the Green Committee created another body which is “The North African Revolutionary Action Committee” (CARNA) chaired by Mohamed TALEB.

During the Second World War, in 1942, the same activists founded the “Belcourt Youth Committee” (CJB), which in turn created the Commando Group, also known as the “Shock Group”, in 1944.

The date of February 15, 1947, which coincides with the holding of the congress of the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties, marks the date of the effective creation of the Special Organization (O.S). From then on, its president Mohamed BELOUIZDAD, as well as Lamine DEBAGHINE, Hocine AIT AHMED and BOUKADOUM began working to structure this organization.

The members of the special organization were divided into groups, each group consisted of three individuals, and each section in turn consisted of three groups, the three sections formed what was called the Detachment.

The leadership of the Special Organization was composed of:
- Mohamed BELOUIZDAD, President.
- Abdelkader BALHAJ DJILALI, military official.
- Mohamed YOUSFI, communications and transmissions manager.

The regions have been divided into five (05) departments:
1- Department of Constantine: Mohamed BOUDIAF,
2- Department of Kabylie: Hocine AIT AHMED,
3- Department of Algiers 01: Djilali REGUIMI,
4- Department of Algiers 02: Mohamed MOROCCO
5- Department of Oran: Ahmed BEN BELLA.

However, the staff command carried out numerous operations on the ground, such as:
- the attack carried out by SOUIDANI Boudjemâa on a marble mine, in the wilaya of Skikda,
- the attack carried out on the Oran post office on April 5, 1949, following which 3 million and 170 thousand old French francs were embezzled.

On March 18, 1950, the Special Organization was discovered following the Tébessa incident, where the French authorities managed to identify certain personalities, which pushed the militants to flee and suspend the activity of the Organization.
