6th General Population and Housing Census
The General Population and Housing Census (RGPH) is a very important operation at the national level, aiming in particular to count the resident population, to collect its demographic, social and economic characteristics as well as the characteristics and coherence of construction and housing.
This census, identified as a priority by the public authorities and enshrined in Law No. 86-09 of July 29, 1986 relating to the general population and housing census, aims to collect extremely valuable data for all users and economic agents, in particular for public authorities, local authorities and economic operators.
Thus, and with the aim of disseminating and consolidating the culture of the use of information and communication technologies in statistical operations, the Ministry of Digitization and Statistics proposed in its sixth edition a project to modernize the general population census operation through the establishment of a solution for the collection and transmission of data in real time which is based on the use of mobile devices and transmission networks, in particular new technologies using tablets, for the first time in Algeria, as digital tools instead of a paper questionnaire.
This will contribute not only to saving time, but also to a significant reduction in the budget, in accordance with the principle of rationalizing expenses recommended by the public authorities.
