The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) was created on Sunday October 21, 1962, three months after the independence of Algeria.
Around twenty members, almost half of whom representing the three departmental leagues created at the time, constituted the first component of the General Assembly of the FAF. This structure came to organize football in Algeria, which at the time had some 30,000 players.
Since its creation, the FAF has been chaired by 28 people including elected, appointed and temporary staff.
Constitutive general assembly of the FAF
The Constitutive Assembly took place at the headquarters of the League of Algiers located on Boulevard du Colonel Amirouche, under the presidency of Mr. Bouchouk, Director of physical education and sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
MM. Djouad and Benhora represented the League of Algiers, while the League of Oran was represented by MM. Benamar, Belkahla and Kouadria, while MM. Cheikh El Fegoun, Boutbila and Lakehal represented the League of Constantine.
The first Federal Office of the FAF was composed of:
• President: Dr Mohand Amokrane MAOUCHE
• First vice-president: Hamid KASSOUL
• Vice-presidents: Miloud BENAMAR, Ahmed DJAOUT and Bencheikh LEFGOUN
• Treasurer: Mahiedddine LAKEHAL
The Algerian Football Federation has been affiliated with the International Football Federation (FIFA) since 1963 and a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 1964.
