Siege of Laghouat
The siege of Laghouat in 1852 is an episode in the French colonization of Algeria (1830-1871).
At the end of 1852, Laghouat, an oasis with a strategic location which is an access to southern Algeria, became “a center of unrest”. A former ally of France, Mohammed ben Abdallah, launched an armed revolt which had some resonance. Three columns, led by generals Aimable Pélissier, Joseph Vantini and Henri Pierre Bouscaren, intervened in Laghouat to quell the revolt
