The Metlili Palace is located 40 kilometers south of the city of Ghardaïa. It is distinguished by its Arab-Islamic urban design, built on a rock platform overlooking the wadi, occupying an area of 8.5 hectares in a quadrilateral and bordered to the north and east by rocky hills, to the west by the road and to the south by Oued Metlili. In the lower part of the palace, the structure of the streets and passages is regular, with two main directions, while in the upper part we find rocky slopes that dictate the shapes of the alleys and streets, with stepped passages. The main streets are wide and lively, especially those which include several squares, including the mosque, the minaret and the square of Sidi Bouhafs, as well as a series of squares including stalls and businesses. Every year, the Mehri (dromedary racing camel) festival is organized in the palace which attracts the attention of many visitors from different regions of Algeria and the world. The Metlili ksar was classified on the national heritage list in 1982.
