Gara Djebilet iron mine – Tindouf
located approximately 150 km southeast of Tindouf.
The iron deposit was discovered in 1952. The lenticular iron layers, of oolitic sedimentary type, are embedded in the essentially sandstone detrital formations of the Lower Devonian.
They correspond to three basins of several kilometers (west, center and east) whose size can exceed 10 m and which are aligned in a SE-NO direction. The layers are subhorizontal and regular near the surface, then dip quite steeply towards the interior of the Tindouf basin.
