2024 general agricultural census
Algerian agriculture has undergone significant transformations over the past two decades, leading to an increase in agricultural capital and its potential, which must be documented and integrated into an updated agricultural statistical system using advanced monitoring technology.
This is the third operation of its kind for the General Agricultural Census (RGA), after the two operations carried out in 1973 and 2001.
The importance that public authorities attach to this periodic process as a practical and essential tool for developing effective agricultural development programs, adapted to the needs and aspirations of citizens and allowing them to be taken care of in an optimal manner, in addition to the general data provided by its results on the agricultural situation and the geographical distribution of agricultural investments, as well as their social specificities, which constitutes a base of reference information for the different sectors, it depends on it to formulate general development plans adapted to the specificities of agricultural investments which will be identified in all regions of the country.
This vast national operation is considered as a tool for collecting comprehensive statistical data on agricultural investments, which will provide a better vision of the sector and allow the development of an effective statistical system that will allow the definition and control of public policies at local and national levels as well as the improvement of the decision-making process. The general census also makes it possible to obtain precise statistical data on the agrarian structure of the agricultural sector, on production systems and the agricultural workforce, as well as on the characteristics and modes of agricultural investments and their performance. This process also makes it possible to make available to us, for the first time, statistics which precisely determine the agricultural potential of the south of the country.
As a reminder, the President of the Republic gave guidelines during the Council of Ministers held on March 24, 2024, through which he urged the government to give all importance to the General Agricultural Census because it is an essential mechanism for knowing national capacities and identifying needs to make the right decisions based on precise scientific data.
In this regard, two commemorative postage stamps will be issued for this operation which will take place from May 19 to July 17, 2024, representing the theme of the General Census of Agriculture, with two designs as follows:
First design: A map of Algeria with its full borders on a green background, dotted with drawings of plant leaves with the logo in white, accompanied by a representation of a green right hand in the center of the map, from which emerge three green ears of increasing size from right to left.
Second design: A map of Algeria with its full borders on a brown background, dotted with designs of plant leaves with the logo in green, accompanied by a representation of a white right hand in the center of the map, from which emerge three white ears of increasing size from right to left.
