Chaib Dzair
Martyr Chaib Dzair was born on February 6, 1938 in Bouchegouf, Guelma. Her father called her 'Dzair' (Algeria) out of love and attachment to his country, Algeria. She grew up in a patriotic family and was raised with a deep love of country. His father was among the first revolutionaries to join the glorious liberation revolution, and their home served as a base for the National Liberation Army, led by the famous martyr 'Badji Mokhtar'.
When the Algerian War of Independence broke out, the martyr joined the ranks of the revolution at the age of 16, with the mission of communicating and providing supplies to the freedom fighters, a task she accomplished with courage and intelligence.
On the night of November 18, 1954, while the martyr 'Badji Mokhtar' held a meeting at the farm of 'Dali Benchouaf' in Guelma, with a group of fighters to plan military operations in the region, Chaib Dzair took care of their needs and provided them with provisions. They were suddenly ambushed and surrounded by colonial forces, but they refused to leave and chose to fight.
The martyr took charge of caring for the wounded, including the famous leader Badji Mokhtar, and remained until her death as a martyr alongside Badji Mokhtar on the night of November 18, 1954, becoming the first female martyr of the Algerian War of Independence.
