The martyr was born in 1919 in El Bayadh, in Besbes, currently part of Ouled Djellal. He continued his primary education at the Zawiya of Ouled Ramliya and his secondary studies at the Zawiya of Mokhtar in Ouled Djellal, where he acquired a solid knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and the Arabic language. In 1945, he joined the People's Party and later the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties, where he was responsible for propaganda and information in Ouled Djellal.

In early 1954, Commander Mostefa Ben Boulaïd appointed him head of the desert region, entrusting him with the task of recruiting and training young people, organizing popular committees, and creating cells of sympathizers in towns and villages in preparation for the revolution. On November 1, 1954, Ziane Ashour was arrested and imprisoned in El-Koudia prison in Constantine until 1955, before joining Bou Saada and enlisting in the ranks of the National Liberation Army.

In early 1956, he traveled to the Ouled Djellal region of Biskra to establish contact with the martyr Omar Idris in 'El Kherza'. In March of the same year, Mostefa Ben Boulaïd entrusted him with leadership of the desert region and declared with admiration: 'The man on whom we count in the desert has arrived.'

Ziane Ashour led many major military operations, including the Battle of Jebel Menaa, the Battle of Jebel Guaiguaà, the attack on the center of the colonial army at Aïn Errich, among others. Ziane Ashour was martyred on November 7, 1956, at a place called 'Khalfoun', near Jebel Thameur, after a three-day battle.
