The mosque was inaugurated on Tuesday 22 Moharram 1443 AH, corresponding to August 31, 2021. This religious complex is one of the largest religious structures in the region, with a capacity of approximately 4,200 prayers, making it one of the largest mosques in the wilaya.

The design of the mosque is the work of the late architect Hamoudi Al Nazir, who devoted many years of his life to this project since 2004. The design is inspired by the Maghrebi-Andalusian architectural style, reflecting a historical and cultural fusion between North Africa and Andalusia, which gives the mosque a unique and distinctive architectural identity.

The mosque is made up of several integrated sections, including a large prayer room for men and another for women, as well as a hall of honor, a room for scientific council meetings, a large courtyard, and separate ablution areas for men and women. It also has a scientific wing including a classroom, a conference room, a library, a reading area, administrative offices and a student club. The residential section includes four rooms and various amenities, including a restaurant, a kitchen, as well as four functional apartments ranging from three to five bedrooms, depending on the needs of the residents.

This mosque is considered the last religious monument in Algeria where "the sun sets", due to its geographical position in the far west. It is also the largest building in the town of Tindouf, thanks to its imposing minaret which exceeds 37 meters in height, with a balcony reserved for observing the lunar phases.
