Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport
Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport is located in the capital, Algiers. On the southern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Inaugurated in 1940 and is among the five largest airports in Africa in terms of reception capacity, equipment and air connectivity. It connects Algeria to Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America with regular flights.
The airport benefits from an efficient and easily accessible land transport network, including the East-West highway, a railway station, a metro station (under construction), as well as bus and taxi stations.
It is equipped with the latest security and safety technologies, including scanners, state-of-the-art explosive detectors, surveillance cameras and automated aircraft guidance systems, among other devices.
The airport has four terminals with a total capacity of 20 million passengers per year. Among them, the west terminal, commissioned in April 2019, can accommodate 10 million passengers per year, in accordance with the “category A” standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Since the creation of the Algiers Airport Services and Infrastructure Management Company in 2006, more than 85 million passengers have been handled on the national and international networks, including nearly 60 million on the international network. The airport recorded more than a million aircraft movements during this same period, or around 66,000 movements per year and 180 per day. It employs several thousand workers, including 1,700 within the management company.
Currently, 22 airlines operate regular flights from Algiers airport, while 3 companies carry out aerial work there.
