Summer Palace of the Governor in Algiers
At the top of rue Michelet, on the left, the Governor's Summer Palace, in the middle of its shaded park populated with Mediterranean and tropical species, presented a succession of Moorish constructions, modernized in places, forming a suitable setting for the parties given by the governor.
Opposite the entrance, a white marble statue represented Marshal MacMahon. On each side of the door, a series of busts of various governors of Algeria: Chanzy, Randon, Pélissier, Damrémont, Bugeaud, de Gueydon, Clauzel and Lamoricière, formed a guard of honor variously appreciated by the quality of the sculptures.
