Harvests Variety
Maouna variety: This is a new local variety of soft wheat developed by the Technical Institute of Field Crops in the wilaya of Guelma. This is a major step forward in strengthening national food security.
The variety was named “Maouna” in reference to Mount Maouna, the highest point in the wilaya of Guelma, located in the heart of fertile agricultural plains. Its development began in 2007, through several stages of adaptation to climatic conditions and the local environment. Field trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in terms of adaptation and performance.
This variety stands out for its high resistance to extreme weather conditions and diseases, as well as its economic profitability, making it a promising choice to strengthen national wheat production and reduce dependence on imports.
