Day of Algerian diplomacy and the 80th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations
The date of October 8 marks Algeria's official accession to the United Nations in 1962, following its independence and the restoration of its legitimate place within the international community. This day constitutes a renewed symbolic stopover to pay tribute to the journey of Algerian diplomacy, which accompanied the stages of the construction of the modern State and contributed to establishing the presence of Algeria as a central and influential actor on the international scene.
At the same time, the world celebrates, on October 24 each year, United Nations Day, commemorating the creation of the organization in 1945, as a major universal reference for the promotion of international peace and security, the defense of human rights and the achievement of sustainable development.
In 2025, the celebration takes on a special character, since Algeria is organizing a double ceremony combining Algerian Diplomacy Day and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, at the initiative of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs.
This celebration aims to highlight the principled journey of Algerian diplomacy and its pioneering role over the decades, marked by a constant commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter and by respect for the rules of international law, particularly in the defense of just causes and the right of peoples to self-determination.
It also constitutes an opportunity to highlight Algeria's contributions to the promotion of peace and security at the regional and international levels, as well as to highlight the achievements of Algerian diplomacy within the framework of Algeria's current participation in the Security Council, through its constructive initiatives and its sustained efforts in favor of dialogue, mutual understanding and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
This commemoration further reaffirms Algeria's unwavering commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations 2030 Agenda, through policies focused on supporting development, strengthening African cooperation and consolidating partnerships based on mutual respect and common interest.
On this occasion, Algeria renews its determination to pursue diplomacy based on principles, mediation and international solidarity, working for peace, stability and development across the world, thus reaffirming its historic mission as a voice of truth and justice among nations.
