Gandon's Marianne is a series of commonly used French stamps, designed by Pierre Gandon and engraved by Henri Cortot in typography and by Gandon in intaglio. The first values were issued at the beginning of 1945 and the last value was withdrawn from sale in 1955. The series was replaced by the Marianne de Muller.
Description
The illustration represents Marianne, allegory of the French Republic, recognizable by the Phrygian cap. Her face is turned to the right, her gaze straight and energetic. Gandon wanted to match the heroism of his character with the context of the Liberation of France.
