Guillaume Fouquet, lord of La Varenne (or Varanne, or Varane, probably la Garenne or Bois des Sars, in the north of the commune of La Flèche and in Bousse), was a French statesman, born in La Flèche on December 13, 1560, and died on December 7, 1616.
Guillaume Fouquet did not come from a noble family, but from a bourgeois family from La Flèche. His father, Martin Fouquet, was the kitchen squire of Françoise d'Alençon, Duchess of Vendôme, in her lordship of La Flèche. After the death of the duchess in 1550, Martin Fouquet fulfilled the same functions with the son of Françoise d'Alençon, Antoine de Bourbon, husband of Jeanne d'Albret, then with their son, the young Henri de Navarre, future king under the name of Henri IV.
