The Richelieu in front of the Admiralty
The Richelieu was a French battleship built in 1935 and named in honor of Cardinal Richelieu. It is one of the last four giant warships that France possessed: the Richelieu, the Jean Bart, the last two battleships, as well as the Strasbourg and its brother the Dunkerque, battle cruisers.
Ultimately a series of 6 identical ships was to be built, to which would be added the two Dunkerque class ships and the two Alsace class ships, thus forming a fleet of 10 modern units authorized by the Washington Treaty.
