Costume of the Aures

The elhaf is the fundamental element of the traditional feminine costume of Aurès. The costume is a Dorian type peplum which belongs to the large family of Berber costumes1. It is similar in name to the melhafa of Algerian city dwellers, however, it resembles more the Kabyle akhellal and the Maghrebi drapes of a rural type.
