The fennec fox has a pale brown to almost white coloring and closely resembles the fox to which it is related, except for its erect ears, each as large as the face.
The fennec fox digs very quickly and, when chased, hides in the sand.
Its burrow is lined with a set of soft materials such as fur or feathers.
The fennec generally sleeps during the day and comes out at night to look for food.
It feeds mainly on mice, small birds, lizards and insects, and supplements this diet with fruits.
The fennec sometimes drinks from waterholes, although it seems that this is not necessary.
The ability of fennec foxes to go without water for indefinite periods of time results from their adaptation to their desert habitat.
