Sometimes weighing more than 4 kg and measuring up to 1.20 m in height, the White Stork is a very good glider, thanks to the impressive span of its wings, often reaching more than two meters. Like all wading birds in its family, the stork has very long legs without feathers, allowing it to hunt in humid areas. They are red/orange, like its beak which reaches up to 19 cm long.
Her dark eyes are lined with black coloring that stretches to the outer corner like makeup. The literature reports a very slight sexual dimorphism, since males are slightly larger than females, with a slightly wider beak.
The plumage of the White Stork is uniformly white, and only some wing feathers, the flight feathers and the greater coverts, are black. When the wings are folded, they completely cover the white tail feathers (rectrices), thus giving the impression of a black tail, which is mistakenly attributed to it in many iconographic representations. The black feathers are particularly strong, ensuring good wing resistance in air currents. Molting, very gradual, is spread over several months at the end of the breeding season and does not prevent storks from flying.
