EA (Algerian State)
At the independence of Algeria, on July 5, 1962, the new administrative authority to ensure the continuity of the postal service took the decision [Decision of June 27, 1962 concerning 10 French stamps: 5 Postage stamps (from July 5 to October 31, 1962) and 5 Tax stamps (from July 5, 1962 to June 1963)] overprint certain commonly used French stamps by affixing the two letters “E.A” (Algerian State) after crossing out the words “French Republic”.
The sale of the first 'EA' series took place for the first time on July 2, 1962 in Laghouat and was only extended to other recipes in the country on July 4, 1962.
