Gas Liquefaction Plant in Arzew
The first natural gas liquefaction complex, inaugurated by President Ahmed Ben Bella on September 27, 1964, reflects the ambition of independent Algeria to develop its natural wealth and increase its production and export capacities for liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The complex installed in Arzew is a great achievement of Algerian industry and the first liquefaction plant in the world. Its first production line was commissioned by the Algerian Liquefied Methane Company (CAMEL) and its first delivery of LNG was to England and France.
The exploitation of hydrocarbon resources for the development of the Algerian economy will allow the rapid establishment of new synthetic industries (fertilizers, textiles, plastic industries, etc.) that generate jobs and are synonymous with economic liberation.
The commemorative postage stamp represents in the foreground a flame which symbolizes the preponderant role of gas as a source of energy necessary for the development of the Algerian economy.
