8th Arab Jamboree Algiers 1968
Since 1954, Arab scout associations have organized a jamboree and a congress every two years. The jamboree is an opportunity for thousands of scouts to meet in a huge international camp, to live and work together in order to get to know each other better.
Algerian Muslim Scouts participated in all Arab jamborees. This is how they represented Algeria in 1954 in Zabadani (Syria), in 1956 in Alexandria, in 1958 in Zabadani, in 1960 in Tunis, in 1962 in Rabat, in 1964 in Aboukeir (RAU) and in 1966 in Tripoli.
In August 1968, Algeria will welcome young scouts and leaders of scout associations from the Arab world, on the occasion of the 8th Scout Jamboree, the 2nd Guides Jamboree and the Congress of Scout Leaders.
The gatherings will be held in the splendid forest of Sidi Fredj, specially designed for this purpose: a camp for each nation, an exhibition gallery, several playgrounds...
Thus, 3,000 young people will be able to live pleasantly in a green setting located near the sea and the capital Algiers. Many and varied activities are planned. Each of the associations will have to make known in an exhibition under tent the economic evolution as well as the history of the uses and customs of the country which it represents.
In the strictly educational and scouting field, all the young people will compete in different sporting, artistic and technical competitions. What will matter above all for the young people is the warmth of the receptions, the enthusiasm of the discoveries, the pleasure of living together, of getting to know each other in order to better appreciate each other and reactivate the magnificent scout spirit.
