New Exhibition Center
On November 19, 1968, the President of the Council of the Revolution and head of government laid the first stone of the Palais des Expositions which he will solemnly inaugurate on September 11, 1970, on the occasion of the opening of the 7th International Fair of Algiers. Located 11 km from the center of Algiers, at a place called Les Pins Maritimes, on a plot of 60 hectares, largely wooded and opening widely onto the sea, this marvelous site is both rural and maritime. The Palais des Expositions, a great and beautiful achievement of independent Algeria, is the work of national Algerian companies to which a team of foreign experts made a valuable technical contribution. With a modern architectural design, with harmonious and light lines, an imposing style without being massive, the Palais des Expositions notably includes three large pavilions with eleven exhibition rooms, four galleries and four foyers, a service center equipped with a conference and screening room for 400 seats, translation, secretarial and telex rooms. There is also the pavilion reserved for general administration as well as that intended for technical maintenance services. This set is completed by modern facilities which meet the needs and comfort of visitors and exhibitors. An effective instrument serving the Algerian economy for the implementation of a development policy, the palace is also an important center of international exchanges and fruitful cooperation between peoples. It will give new impetus to Algeria's foreign trade by conquering new outlets for its products and diversifying its sources of supply for products and equipment of all kinds. Its opening, which coincides with the start year of the first quadrennial plan, will offer Algerian production, which will be widely represented there, the opportunity to measure its development. Permanent headquarters of the Algiers International Fair, the Palais des Expositions will also host various economic and cultural events, thus fully assuming its role for the benefit of the entire nation and in the service of international cooperation.
