25th Anniversary of UNICEF
On December 11, 1946, on the recommendation of its Economic and Social Council, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the resolution by which it created the International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF or FISE).
The United Nations Children's Fund aims to collaborate with developing countries in their efforts to improve the lot of children and adolescents and to prepare them to contribute to the progress of their societies.
UNICEF is financed by voluntary contributions from governments of industrialized and developing countries, as well as organizations and individuals. A large part of UNICEF assistance is given in the form of materials and supplies, for example equipment or drugs for child health services, equipment for the production of vaccines, recreational equipment for daycare centers, equipment for vocational training workshops, and finally equipment for milk processing and the production of weaning foods.
In recent years, other types of assistance have become increasingly important. In Algeria, the training of paramedical personnel and the continued development of the health infrastructure were the two major points of application of the credits allocated by the FISE Board of Directors for the year 1970.
FISE assistance is also aimed at intensifying the production of Superamine, a food for children. In October and November 1970, the Blida factory, equipped by FISE, produced 6 tons of food per day. December 11, 1971 will mark the 25th anniversary of Unicef-FISE and a new turning point in the history of the organization which has decided to play an increasingly important role in favor of youth.
