Dianthus caryophyilus
The common carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) or florists' carnation, wall carnation, Chabaud carnation, is a species of herbaceous plants in the Caryophyllaceae family. Its countless cultivars are produced as ornamental plants for their flowers of varied colors, white, pink or red.
This species is probably native to the shores of the Mediterranean, and widely spread by cultures since Antiquity. It belongs to the Dianthus genus (flower dedicated to Zeus) which includes nearly 300 species.
