Stamp Day 1974
Postal administrations around the world have always sought to develop the services they provide to users. They have thus applied technical acquisitions to cope with ever-increasing traffic and adapt their resources to economic, demographic and social developments.
Among the appropriate technical means that have been used are automatic dispensers of postage stamps or postage stamp books which are devices operated by the user himself.
The distribution of figurines or notebooks is caused automatically by the coin(s) inserted into the device. This invention especially benefits users who are no longer tied to counter opening hours and can be served more quickly.
In addition, the use of these devices, by facilitating the purchase of commonly used postage stamps, significantly reduces counter service. Aiming to offer new facilities to users and reduce the operating costs of its services, the Algerian Post and Telecommunications Administration has undertaken, as part of its program to mechanize counter operations, the installation in major post offices of 30 automatic stamp book dispensers of a very advanced and easy to handle model.
Initially limited to the main towns of the wilaya, this experience will subsequently be extended to other localities and even to places frequented by the public, such as train stations, airports, tourist resorts, where these distributors will sometimes be combined with telephone booths to create so-called silent or self-service post offices.
These installations, which are very popular with users, constitute an event that the Post and Telecommunications Administration was keen to mark by issuing a postage stamp reproducing a distributor of the model put into service.
