10th Anniversary of the Arab Labor Organization
Founded by the 1st Conference of Arab Ministers of Labor held in Baghdad in 1965, the Arab Labor Organization is a specialized institution of the Arab League.
Its headquarters is in Cairo. The Arab Labor Conference, which meets once a year, is the highest organ of the Organization.
It brings together government delegates, employers and workers from member states. The Arab Labor Organization has a permanent secretariat called the Arab Labor Bureau.
The Director General of the Office is elected for 5 years by the Conference and his activity is controlled by a Board of Directors also elected by the Conference and renewed every 3 years.
The Arab Labor Organization aims to coordinate the efforts undertaken by Arab countries in the field of labor, to assist in the unification of Arab labor legislation, and to undertake studies and research on various subjects relating to labor.
To achieve these objectives, the Organization created specialized commissions in different Arab countries and two Arab Institutes of Research and Workers' Education, one in Algiers and the other in Baghdad.
