Skikda August 20, 1955
Algeria is preparing to celebrate with particular splendor the commemoration of August 20 – National Mujahid Day – which this year coincides with the 20th anniversary of August 20, 1955.
“Let us remember that even before the first anniversary of November 1, 1954, August 20, 1955 would offer a demonstration of sacred union and total commitment of the entire people through its djounoud and its activists.
Through a generalized insurrection triggered across a large part of the national territory, the population led by the National Liberation Army attacked everything that colonization represented and proclaimed its desire to put an end to colonial domination.
August 20, 1955 shook deeply rooted beliefs among the enemy: the mujahideen were an isolated minority and the colonial apparatus was invincible.
Through the widespread insurrection and its immediate and distant consequences, August 20, 1955 marked an important stage in the conduct of the armed struggle.
This memorable date first of all established the intimate cohesion of the people with their liberation army.
It then marked the active solidarity of the Algerian people with the brotherly people of Morocco engaged in the liberating struggle against the common enemy and affirmed, beyond that, the Maghreb dimension of this fight.
The Algerian Revolution was also imposed on the international level as well as on universal consciousness.
