The Organization of African Unity (OAU) decided during one of its summits in 1969 to hold a Pan-African Trade Fair with the aim of promoting intra-African economic cooperation and trade.
The first Pan-African Trade Fair took place in Nairobi (Kenya) from February 23 to March 5, 1972. At the end of this event, the OAU summit decided to institutionalize this fair by holding it every four years and chose Algeria for the second event.
This is how the 2nd Pan-African Trade Fair will take place in Algiers from October 1 to 17, 1976. Covering an area of 200 ha, the Exhibition Center of the Algiers International Fair has been chosen to host this African economic event.
It has four pavilions covering an area of 63,000 m2, three open exhibition areas, with a total area of 76,000 m2, 20 permanent pavilions of foreign countries and 35 permanent pavilions of national companies covering an area of 180,000 m2.
This Fair, for the realization of which Algeria has deployed considerable human, material and financial resources, will be a faithful reflection of the economic development of Africa, its potential and its objectives. It will also be the forum where economic leaders and businessmen from the continent will meet.
Alongside the economic aspect, cultural activity will also experience various events. Participating countries will have the opportunity to present visitors with an overview of their culture, particularly through artistic and folkloric expressions. The economic and cultural environment thus created, both in terms of its scale and its content and scope, will give a faithful image of the new Africa to visitors to the 2nd Pan-African Trade Fair, which is in itself an event of immense significance for the future of the African continent.
