2nd General Population and Housing Census
The 2nd General Population and Housing Census (RGPH) will take place from February 12 to 26 and will better prepare future economic and social development actions, compared to the 1966 census.
Part of the second four-year plan, its task will be to take stock of the rapid growth in the population's needs for goods and services.
Placed under the supervision of the State Secretariat for Planning, the National Commission for Censuses and Statistical Surveys will process all information through its regional services.
Innovations were introduced such as questionnaires on nomadic households, hotel residents and the like, hospital residents, high school boarders and the military. This operation was preceded by an awareness campaign led by mass organizations.
The National Counting Center, headquartered in Oran, is responsible for gathering all the documents and archives. It was equipped with five mini-computers to replace the classic mechanical workshop.
All the information collected will be transmitted to a very powerful computer at the State Planning Secretariat. Prepared for two years, this operation will require the mobilization of numerous teams: around fifty wilaya engineers, 1,500 numbering delegates, 1,200 municipal delegates, 1,200 trainers, as well as 36,000 controllers, census takers and municipal delegates spread across the 703 municipalities of the national territory.
Households will first receive notices specifying the enumerator’s appointment.
