Socialist Agricultural Village
The Agrarian Revolution does not separate the problem of working conditions in agriculture from that of living conditions in the countryside. The modernization of agriculture requires the improvement of the living conditions of farmers, because we cannot envisage the liberation of poor farmers, their promotion to the role of agents of development, without an infrastructure facilitating economic, social and cultural exchanges and a consequent transformation of the way of life accompanying and supporting this development.
The Agrarian Revolution had a decisive impact on the socio-cultural equipment of the countryside. Increased spending is devoted to communications infrastructure, gas and electricity distribution, and public health. Likewise, the State is developing its efforts to improve schooling and reduce its costs for the poorest families.
A new living environment is created thanks to the construction of agricultural villages based on rational economic conditions and ensuring the settlement of populations. Based on the agrarian and cooperative structures resulting from the Agrarian Revolution, these villages constitute real socio-economic complexes, ensuring all economic functions and social and cultural administrative services.
This rural equipment project involves the construction of a thousand socialist villages spread throughout the national territory. The first village was inaugurated by the President of the Republic on June 17, 1973. Since that date, dozens of other villages have emerged throughout the wilayas.
Construction continues at an accelerated pace. This rhythm is maintained by the State, the municipalities, the beneficiaries themselves, the volunteers and the conscripts of the National Service.
