Algiers is hosting this year, from July 13 to 28, the third edition of the African Games. Placed under the sign of friendship and solidarity, this edition sees the participation of more than 3,000 guests from 45 African nations to experience the fervor and sporting spirit of the Algiers games.
The inauguration of this continental-scale event is enhanced by the presence of illustrious personalities from the world of sport such as Lord Killanin, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Adriaan Paulen, president of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), and Janvier Ostos, president of the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
To guarantee the success of this 3rd edition, the African Games Organizing Committee (COJA) set up 8 commissions and mobilized more than 9,000 people to take care of the 3,000 guests.
For the occasion, Algeria made modern infrastructure available to athletes such as the football stadium (July 5) with a capacity of 70,000 seats and the Palais des Sports (Coupole) with a capacity of 7,000 seats and equipped with an annex athletics stadium, the Harcha sports hall with a capacity of 10,000 seats, as well as the August 20 velodrome stadium with a capacity 20,000 seats.
The National Sports Medicine Center is used to facilitate the work of medical and paramedical staff during the games. Engaged in all disciplines, Algeria is represented by a component of 265 female and male athletes.
Note a first in the annals of the African games, namely the radio and television broadcast by the RTA to at least 40 African and European countries which will attend this major sporting event live or will be entitled to delayed summaries of the event with an average of 3 hours daily, part of which is granted on a voluntary basis.
