Telecom 79 International Exhibition, in Geneva
Algeria celebrates this year, on May 17, World Telecommunications Day in commemoration of the creation of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
A rich program is developed for this occasion. Throughout the national territory, conference debates and symposia bringing together national and international telecommunications specialists and experts are organized around the latest advances in communication technologies. Open days for citizens and professionals are initiated in the various structures of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
Created in 1865, the ITU is one of the oldest international institutions in history. It represents the main source of information on standardization, regulation and technologies covering telecommunications.
The ITU is an organization within which States and the private sector coordinate international telecommunications networks and services. The ITU headquarters is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
From its beginnings, the ITU has known how to develop its skills in the communications space. It has been able to generate global momentum for the construction of the information society by relying on recognized techniques for the benefit of the most isolated regions and the most fragile populations and contributes to the acceleration of economic and social progress.
Algeria has been a member of the International Telecommunications Union since May 3, 1963.
