Boats from the 17th and 18th centuries
A vessel with sails and oars, used in the 17th and 18th centuries by the Algerian navy, a ship with three masts, including those for the mizzen and mizzen, inclined forward, carrying three lateen sails set on antennas and a jib tacked on a bowsprit, the chebek had the reputation of being a formidable sea walker.
At the rear is the cabin; the stern protruded widely and the rear crowning was very decorated.
It was 36 m long, 8.8 m wide, 5 m high on the front keel and 8 m2 at the rear.
It had twelve ports measuring 0.48 m x 0.60 m whose mantlets opened horizontally.
The total surface area of the sails reached 662 m2 to which were added 20 oars 8 m long maneuvered by two men each.
