75th Anniversary of Scouting
It was in 1907 that the scout movement was born. It was created by Baden-Powell with the aim of giving and strengthening moral and civic values among young people.
An educational method of exceptional value, scouting is based on the balanced development of health, character, competence, manual skill and work well done, civic and spiritual spirit.
A universal social phenomenon, scouting adapts to social, economic and political realities. It gradually developed in Europe then in Arab countries and the Maghreb from 1930.
In Algeria, the first scout troop was created in 1934. Three major stages marked the national scout movement, the first of which was that of creation and structuring with the essential point being the constitutive congress of the Algerian Muslim Scouts which took place in July 1939.
In July 1944, during the Tlemcen rally, 65 towns were represented by 450 young executives who once again confirmed the unity of the movement and the strengthening of fraternal bonds.
On May 8, 1945, the repression of the movement increased: premises closed, executives arrested...
During the National Liberation Struggle, many scouts joined the National Liberation Army and the National Liberation Front. Following independence, the scout movement was reconstituted and effectively supervised tens of thousands of young volunteers for reconstruction, reforestation and literacy campaigns.
Today, within the National Union of Algerian Youth, scouting is expected to experience new momentum after the holding of the 2nd congress which decided to implement the recommendations of the extraordinary congress of the National Liberation Front party relating to kechefs and call to "work for the renewal of the scout movement and its rehabilitation as a vital and dynamic organization instilling the values of responsibility and pride within the framework of youth organization."
