This large raptor, 65 to 80 cm in length with a wingspan of 1.55 to 1.70 m, belongs to the Falconidae family.
The plumage varies from beige to dark brown, with the tail barred with gray.
It nests on the ground or on a high tree.
The nest is flat with a slight depression (to hold the eggs).
The clutch is generally 2 eggs.
Most often, a single chick leaves the nest around fifty days after hatching.
The steppe eagle, widespread in the 19th century, has become very rare.
Currently, it seems scattered on both sides of the Tell Atlas.
It is the rarest of Algerian eagles.
